HOUSING AND COMMERCIAL
The staff at Rubicon Heritage have a wealth of experience of working with archaeology in urban contexts both in the UK and Ireland. This work has included extensive excavations, some of which were deeply stratified and, in some instances, waterlogged. Rubicon staff have developed essential skills in excavating and recording these sites, as well as dealing with the large volumes of artefacts and preserved organic remains and human remains they often yield. Urban archaeology presents significant logistical challenges that are encountered when working in built up areas. Health and Safety is a particular concern when working in the centre of busy settlements and in confined spaces.

Experience in this regard is vital. Rubicon routinely manages such aspects, carrying out stabilization of deep excavations and water management safely and successfully. We are regularly called upon to carry out urban archaeological works in city centre locations; recent examples include our work on Metro North and Luas BXD lines in Dublin. We bring our urban archaeological work through to full final report completion and beyond- for example we recently published the results of a series of important excavations carried out in the core of historic Cashel.
