The Project SuedLink forms a key part of Germany’s plans to obtain power from wholly renewable sources by 2030 by 2035 and is a new underground cable connection to transport wind power from northern Germany to Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. At a length of 700 kilometres, SuedLink will be the largest transmission cable in the network and the longest underground power cable in the world. Rubicon Archäologie has been appointed, with its partners in Infra Europe JV, to deliver the full range of archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation services for the project across 462km of the route and more than 2000 known sites across southern Germany from Lower Saxony to Bavaria, running from autumn 2023 through to 2028. Senior Grabungsleitung (Senior Excavation Manager) You would primarily be responsible for the archaeological strategy, management and overall evaluation of several smaller/one larger sites, including the dating and identification of all types of finds (not including human remains), except where specified separately by specialists. Grabungstechniker (Technicians) We are looking for individuals to carry out archaeological fieldwork with at least three months commercial archaeology experience. You will be involved in all activities that arise during an archaeological excavation, its documentation and processing. This includes, for example, addressing and describing features, surveying, drawing, photography, but also the creation of plans and profiles as well as the uncovering of features and the management of finds. Depending on the project situation, the work may also include the independent supervision of archaeological topsoil excavations and their documentation (form, photos, diary, etc.). They will also be entrusted with assisting the excavation manager, in particular with the organisation of the excavation, the excavation personnel and the excavation-specific procedures. As part of the post-excavation work, the job includes all processing of the raw data from the field (e.g. drawing up survey plans, lists of finds or photographs) and, in consultation with the respective excavation manager, support with scientific research and writing the respective reports. The successful candidate will be expected to manage a range of projects and to assist with continued business development. The role will involve managing archaeological projects from birth to grave, including (but not limited to) compiling or contributing to tenders, liaising with clients, managing budgets, allocating and managing resources, reporting to senior managers, ensuring quality and compliance in all elements of a project and quality assurance in reporting and publication. We are seeking candidates who can showcase a diverse skill set, including proficiency in the excavation and post-excavation processes. An in-depth understanding of Irish archaeology, coupled with comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks, is essential. Experience in project management is also beneficial, but training and mentorship can be provided in this regard if a candidate can demonstrate an interest/aptitude for this type of work.

The purpose of this role is to support the Commercial and Sales Directors with the commercial management of large infrastructure projects, as well as deal with cost estimation and contract management on a range of other archaeological projects related to construction activity. We are looking for someone with Quantity Surveying skills who has experience negotiating contracts and change management with clients and/or experience in cost estimation and the management of resource data. There will be a requirement to work with clients in Ireland, UK and Germany which may come with some travelling. Experience with archaeological work would be ideal but not essential.
Responsibilities:
Review and assist with the preparation of tender submissions, including cost estimation.
Reviewing contracts at both tender and project award.
Highlighting scope and assisting with implementing contract compliance.
Management of subcontractors’ contracts and payments.
Implement training and upskilling to develop the role and support staff
