Preservation in situ of an Enclosure at Rathangan, Co. Kildare
Archaeological test trenching in advance of an application for planning permission associated with a proposed housing development was undertaken at lands in Rathangan townland, Co. Kildare. The investigation identified a single ditched ringfort-type enclosure associated with the early medieval period. In order to secure a successful grant of planning permission, a mitigation strategy of preservation in situ was recommended to the design team. This was facilitated by redesigning the proposed housing layout and implementing a new road layout for the development.
