N9/N10 Kilcullen to Carlow Scheme: A River Flood Plain in Prumplestown, Co. Kildare
Rubicon carried out a 3000 m² excavation in the flood plain of the River Lerr as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Carlow road scheme on behalf of the National Roads Authority (now Transport Infrastructure Ireland - TII) and Kildare County Council. A complex logistical and methodological approach was devised to excavate the area while controlling the frequent inundations the site experienced. A series of Iron Age and early medieval brushwood trackways within the floodplain were uncovered. The highlights of the excavation were the discovery of an early medieval wooden tread-trap a Late Iron Age spear shaft and a Bronze Age wooden adze haft.
