N6 Galway to Ballinasloe Scheme: A Cemetery Settlement in Carrowkeel, Co. Galway
Full archaeological excavation was conducted on this site as part of the N6 Galway to Ballinasloe Road Scheme on behalf of the National Roads Authority (now Transport Infrastructure Ireland - TII) and Galway County Council. This revealed a multi-period enclosure and cemetery site, containing over 120 burials. Rubicon successfully completed the fieldwork element before our in-house osteoarchaeologists analysed the skeletal assemblage. In addition to the final report numerous publications, lectures and posters have been produced for both national and international audiences.
